There is a difference between salvation, sanctification, and discipleship.
Salvation- Happens the very moment we believe On Christ.
Yes, the very moment you believe On Christ, Instantaneously, supernaturally, and eternally God Himself grants you forgiveness of all your sins and the gift of everlasting life.
Sanctification- Means growing in Christ.
This is the process throughout your Christian journey in which God is making you Holy. Now God has already made you Holy by the perfect shed blood of Jesus on that cross. If you believe in Jesus, you are already sanctified now and are being sanctified throughout your life at the same time. You have been made Holy by the blood of Jesus now but at the same time God is in the process of making you Holy throughout your life. The Holy Spirit will lead us and teach us to grow in Christ using the word of God.
Discipleship- Means following Christ.
Jesus said If any man wants to follow me let him deny himself take up his cross daily and follow me (Luke 9:23). Our gaze throughout our Christian journey here on earth should always be fixed on Jesus who is The Author and Finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). The Holy Spirit will lead us to follow Jesus using the word of God.
Summary
1st. You receive salvation the very moment you believe On Christ.
2nd. Now after you receive salvation by faith in Jesus, The Holy Spirit is going to lead you the believer in Christ in sanctification and discipleship.
Sanctification and discipleship happens immediately after one gets saved by Jesus. Sanctification and discipleship are not to be confused with salvation. Sanctification and discipleship are not salvation but are things that happen for the believer in Christ after salvation.
This means The Holy Spirit is going to lead you into growing in Christ and The Holy Spirit is going to lead you into following Christ.
God is currently in the process of conforming all believers in Christ into Christ likeness, yes to conform us all into the image of His Son Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29). The way he does this is through sanctification and discipleship.
